Fellowship by Assessment

Royal College of General Practitioners (Scotland) in collaboration with The Institute of Healthcare Management (Scotland).

An exciting opportunity awaits for you to embark on a journey of professional development in a new initiative designed specifically for Practice Managers.

By putting yourself forward as a potential candidate for Fellowship of IHM, you will be joining a small band of like-minded Practice Managers undertaking this prestigious award process.

Key aims of the Award are:

  • To recognise and encourage managers providing high quality services supporting patient care.
  • To recognise and encourage managers aspiring to excellence through a process of continual improvement in delivery of patient care.
  • To recognise and encourage managers committed to lifelong learning and reflective practice.

The Process

  • The Award is criteria based and dovetails with QPA, FBA and MAP
  • Managers will require to collate a portfolio of written evidence set against 14 sets of criteria which include:
    • Candidate and Practice Profile, Communications, Equipment, Finances, Health and Safety, Information Technology, Leadership, The Manager, Patient Issues, Planning, Policies, Protocols and Procedures, Premises, Records and Registers, Personnel Management, Staff.
  • It is expected that the process will take about a year to complete
  • An Adviser/Mentor will work with the candidate to provide support and advice

The Cost

The current cost of FBA is £1765 broken down as follows:

  • £15 for the criteria Handbook
  • £200 administration fee (non-refundable) and payable on application
  • £1550 payable at the time of assessment

Who can apply

  • Managers who have been a FULL member of IHM for 2 years
  • Non members can apply now but cannot be awarded Fellowship until they have completed 2 years membership.
