CASPE Research - Healthcare Accreditation Programme
The Institute is very much involved with this UK-wide organisation and is represented on the Healthcare Accreditation Programme's Professional Board. Elise Allan from Ayrshire has been appointed for three years as the IHM adviser with Ken Laurie from Fife acting as deputy.
There is a growing interest amongst Scottish community hospitals and services, including LHCC's for external recognition of the quality systems within their services. The HAP process assists organisations to achieve explicit professionally recognised standards of excellence and is active in many areas within Scotland. Its services have been proven to be of considerable value and participants have found the programme to be a catalyst in motivating staff and the focus of the standards on health and safety and risk management provide a mechanism to monitor corporate and clinical governance. Since its inception in 1990 over 300 surveys have taken place in 150 healthcare organisations.

CASPE Research - Accreditation and Development of Health Records Programme (ADR)
The ADR Programme offers NHS Trusts the perfect way to ensure that they have a high quality records service to support patient care and the implementation of clinical governance. The Programme tests the integrity of a health records service, helps pinpoint problems and solutions and provides a mechanism to ensure that the service can continuously develop in line with future advances in service delivery.
ADR is a national accreditation programme for all NHS Trusts throughout the United Kingdom managed by CASPE Research. ADR provides a way of assessing central health records services against professionally endorsed standards, following which the service can be accredited for up to three years. Two Scottish Trusts, Grampian University Hospitals NHS Trust and Ayrshire & Arran Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, have previously achieved the maximum three years' accreditation award.
