Bob Scott-Brown Memorial Award
Introduction
Bob Scott Brown, a popular, well respected, keen and active IHM supporter tragically died in July 2000, just over a month after launching the new Institute web site at the annual conference in Dunblane. Bob was only 52, although he had the enthusiasm and passion of someone much younger. He had a major impact upon primary care across Scotland, particularly in the Dumfries area where he managed two practices. His commitment to the IHM was huge serving on the Scottish Council of IHSM before the merger with AMGP. He became a Council member of the new IHM Scotland and continued to make an impact through 'The Network' Group, the IHM Scotland Web Site, regular Conference presentations and attendances and many other contributions too numerous to mention.
The Award
It was felt that Bob's contribution and memory should be recognised in a positive fashion. Accordingly, it has been decided to create a new annual award to encourage others to reach new heights. As Bob was so passionate about what could be achieved in primary care the award is directed at this sector.
The initiative is being supported by both IHM Scotland and Arkimedes Training of which Bob was a founding partner.
Entries should outline in no more than 1500 words an innovative development in primary care in Scotland which encourages joint working between the professions and across traditional boundaries and brought real benefits to patients. It must contain the names of two confirmatory referees.
The award will be presented at the Scottish Institute of Healthcare Management Annual Conference on 24th / 25th May and published by IHM in suitable journals The winner will receive a suitable memento and a personal cheque for £1000. The recipient is expected to attend the Award Ceremony and will be called upon to briefly describe the project and what the nomination and Award means to him/her.
