Continuing Professional Development 2007

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a mandatory requirement for IHM members. All IHM sponsored events assist in meeting this requirement. CPD certificates of attendance will be provided on request to all participants for inclusion in their CV portfolios.

In addition, IHM provide a range of CPD modules, MHSC e-learning elements and Milestones to develop managers' generic skills and competencies.

MHSC e-learning elements

The e-learning elements at mhsc.org.uk have been developed to assist all managers in health and social care settings who have a need for some input and guidance around key development areas, as well as for managers undertaking one of the many MHSC materials-based courses.

We have developed these elements within a framework that allows you to discover more material about each of the subject areas. This includes a library giving access to further information on the web as well as references to books and articles, in-depth case studies, a search function and a feedback form where you can evaluate what we have done so far and thus help us as we further develop new elements.

Elements currently available include Appraisal, Coaching For Managers, Managing Change, Managing Conflict, Mentoring, Planning & Recruitment, Project Management, Purchasing & Contracts, Improving Your Effectiveness and Management Supervision.

MHSC Milestones

After intensive development, piloting and testing, IHM is delighted to announce the availability of MHSC Milestones.

Milestones are accredited learning programmes based upon open learning materials which are focussed upon one discrete area of management practice and proposed development.

They each represent in total about 50 hours of study and activity including the assessment time. We estimate this to take around six weeks from start to successful conclusion.

All current Milestones carry 5 general credits at Masters level. This is equivalent to between a third and a quarter of the credits for a University Module at the same level. Milestone titles currently available are:

Making Information Work for You
Managing Service Delivery
Managing Service Quality
Organisational Structures and the Flow of Information
The Role of the Enterprise Manager

IHM members are entitled to a 25% discount on the normal price for each Milestone and there are also group discounts available.
